[BUG] Max Account downgraded from Max to Free Plan mid-subscription
Preflight Checklist

What's Wrong?
Discovered my Claude Max Account (self-)downgraded to the Free Plan, after sign in, upon login prompt with Claude Code. I was mid-task this morning when the logout happened, and the login prompt initiated. I logged in as I would typically do, and was greeted with a message that Claude Opus 4.7 is not available on the Free Plan, and to upgrade in order to utilize it, or Claude Code. I checked my Google Play account, and everything is in order, and indicates I am on a paid Max Account - Fin also sees me on a paid account on his end as well. Last payment was made, successfully - April 16th. My renewal is May 16th. It is May 6th, and I now have nothing more than a free plan - The fact Google Play, and Fin both verify the Max subscription is active , and then being prompted to upgrade to use the service indicates there is either some anomaly or interaction between Google Play and Claude - or simply Claude, and my account.

What Should Happen?
I should sign in, and have my usual Claude Max 20x plan - not a free plan.

I had same problem ~~.
Same here
Same here just paid by May 4 to max 5x and now it's free plan what's the problem?
Same issue here — filed separately as #61339 with full timeline and receipts, linking it for the maintainers' reference.
Quick summary of my case in case it helps identify the cause:
The May 11 reversion date is suspiciously close to where the previous (canceled) cycle would have renewed, which makes me suspect the new subscription inherited the old cycle's expiry timer rather than starting a fresh 30-day period from the new payment date.
Support ticket: 15+ days, no response. +1 for prioritization — this is now a confirmed recurring billing bug across multiple users.
On June 8, 2026, I subscribed to Claude Max x5. For exactly one week, everything worked normally without any issues.
However, on June 15, 2026, around 5:30 AM, while I was not actively using Claude Code, I logged into claude.ai and noticed that my subscription had been downgraded to the Free Plan.
I checked my invoices, and the payment status showed as "Paid." I also checked my email inbox and spam folder but found no notifications about any cancellation, refund, or account issue.
I contacted the Finn AI support bot, which informed me that:
This was confusing because:
Throughout the day, I attempted to contact Anthropic through multiple channels, including email, support forms, Discord, and Twitter/X, but I have not yet received a response.
Later that evening, I decided to purchase Claude Pro again on the same account. The payment was successful, and I was able to use Claude Code normally. After reaching my usage limit, I upgraded again to Claude Max x5.
After the upgrade, Claude Code started returning a "403 insufficient credit" error. About 30 minutes later, my account was once again downgraded to the Free Plan without any email notification or warning, while the invoice still displayed "Paid."
When I contacted Finn again, it repeated that my payment status was "Cancelled" and that I was not eligible for a refund. Meanwhile, my bank still showed no refund and no related notifications.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue or successfully contacted Anthropic support and resolved it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am experiencing the exact same critical provisioning bug, but with an even worse outcome.
Here is my timeline:
June 9, 2026: Subscribed to the Claude Max tier. The payment went through perfectly, and the invoice status in my billing history is marked as "PAID".
June 16, 2026: After just one week, the UI completely downgraded me back to the Free Plan.
The Double Charge: Thinking there was a glitch or that the first payment hadn't registered properly, the system allowed me to execute the payment a second time. I paid again, but the backend completely ignored BOTH of my active payments. I am still stuck on the Free Plan today.
Troubleshooting done so far (all failed):
Logged out and logged back in using the manual email/magic link method instead of Google/Apple OAuth.
Cleared browser cookies, session data, and hard-refreshed cache.
Tested on multiple clean browsers and incognito mode.
Restarted router to clear any potential IP/DNS caching issues.
Checked the Billing section, but the UI is locked—there is no option to update card details, only buttons to pay again.
To top it off, the official Intercom/Fin support bot on the website has completely stopped responding (ghosted me) mid-conversation.
This is a severe backend database desync between Stripe/Link and Anthropic's user entitlements. We are literally getting wrongfully double-charged for a service we cannot access. It's causing massive downtime for my production development workflow.
Has anyone from Anthropic acknowledged this specific loop yet?
This just happened to me, but I'm on the Pro plan. I was working with the Claude app, went to lunch, and Claude and Claude Code stopped working. When I refreshed, it showed my account was on the Free plan. I still have 6 days remaining on my plan before it auto-renews.

_And then this also happened to me._
Has anyone seen a resolution to this issue?
Same:
When scheduling a plan downgrade on claude.ai (e.g., Max → Pro, effective on a future billing date), the Claude Code VS Code extension's Account & Usage view starts showing/behaving as the downgraded (Pro) plan — even though the current plan (Max) is still active until the scheduled change date.
Solution: I cancelled the scheduled downgrade, /login again from the VS code and that resolved the issue. I'll just have to remember to downgrade before the charge date (no longer need the personal max while using the work one)
You’re not alone — I’m seeing almost exactly the same issue with a Claude Max subscription purchased through Google Play.
Max worked normally for about three days, then my account dropped back to Pro and later Free, while Google Play still showed that I was already subscribed to Max.
I reported it to Anthropic support nearly a month ago, but I still haven’t received any human response — only automated Fin messages.

It happened again - this time my monthly plan was downgraded to free after just 14 days!
It seems to be working again, with the correct plan. This happened at the same time they moved Fable from our "50% of usage" availability to Usage Credits. Anthropic develops some awesome products, but they pay little to no attention to the frontline individual users.
