[BUG] Claude Max 5x gift subscription auto-canceled after ~1 week — account reverted to Free plan with no user action

What's Wrong?

I redeemed a Claude Max 5x gift subscription on March 29, 2026.
The redemption was confirmed successful. I had full Max access for
approximately 7 days. Around April 5–6, 2026, my account was
silently downgraded to the Free plan — with no email notification,
no warning, and no action on my part.

Unlike some related reports where Billing still shows Max as active,
in my case both Settings → Account and Settings → Billing show Free plan.
The subscription has fully disappeared from my account.

Nope. @claude doesn't provide real team support to free plan users, and you have to talk with their stupid Fin AI bot, which says "I know that problem in our backend, but I can't provide you with real team support, let's continue discussing this problem here". And it goes again and again, even if you created a ticket (also you can create only 1 ticket xd), they will ignore you (2 days after my ticket - no responses). Anthropic has very weak support and they do not provide good quality support to free plan users.
Now I'm writing a Reddit post about this problems, because people are losing a lot of money and Anthropic is ignoring them.

I'm experiencing the same issue. My gifted Max 5x subscription (expiry: April 28, 2026) was automatically cancelled without any action on my part. I was using it normally until late night on April 9, then found it showing as "Cancelled" the next morning.

No payment failure (it's a gift subscription). Google account login — no unauthorized access. Support ticket submitted (#90589223) and email sent to support@anthropic.com but no human response yet. This is causing significant disruption to my work. This appears to be a systemic bug affecting multiple gift subscription users. Please prioritize a fix.

Same issue, My gifted Max 5x subscription ( expiry : April 29, 2026) was changed to free tier.
I can't do my task althogh I paid. I should pay pro tier until it covered back.

I sent e-mail, but there's no response from Anthropic yet.

Does Anthropic have any intention of resolving this issue? Their Help Center AI hasn't been helpful at all, and the human support response time has been extremely slow.

Same. It happened twice on me so far.

  1. I sent a pro 1 month sub in 8th to one of my friends, and when he redeem it, it said no longer active ... Due to impossible to get help from customer service, I submit a Chase dispute and get my money back.
  2. I bought a pro 1 month sub for myself in 8th as well. It suddenly turn back to free plan at today (I asked Fin AI, it said it being automatically canceled due to payment failure).... But the money already deduce at my credit card. I planed to submit another dispute for it (and buy another sub and try to contact human customer service). Edit: ticket#91095759

Redeemed a 1-month Claude Pro gift (100% off) on Apr 7, 2026. Used Pro features that same day. Next day — account reverted to Free plan with no warning, no email, no action on my part.

I'm in a similar situation: five days after activating my Max 5x gift subscription, I was downgraded to the free plan without notice. Furthermore, there's no invoice for this gift subscription in the billing section, even though after activating it, I was notified that the subscription was valid until May 6, 2026.

I recently redeemed a gift card for the Claude Max Plan (5x), but my account has unexpectedly reverted to the "Free" mode.

the details of my transaction below:

  • Date Paid: April 6, 2026
  • Plan Description: Max plan - 5x (Apr 6–May 6, 2026)

Although the receipt shows the plan should be active until May 6, 2026, I no longer have access to the Max plan features.

If you bought a Claude Max/Pro gift code from resellers like GamsGo and your subscription was silently downgraded to 'Free' after a few days, STOP waiting for Anthropic’s support. They will ignore you.
​I’ve spent the last 8 days fighting this and successfully escalated it to federal agencies and payment gateways. Here is the exact truth of what is happening and the step-by-step manual to get your money back.
​🚨 THE SCAM STRUCTURE (The "Double-Dip" Trap)
There is a systemic billing bug between Anthropic and Stripe. But here is the most malicious part: When the system inevitably cancels your subscription and processes an automated refund, the money goes back to the RESELLER'S original payment card, not you.
GamsGo knows this. They keep your money, they quietly receive the refund from Anthropic, and they blame the AI for the issue, leaving you with no service and no cash.
​⚔️ ACTION PLAN: HOW TO FIGHT BACK
​STEP 1: Nuke their Trustpilot (The only thing they fear)
Do not waste time with GamsGo customer service. Go straight to Trustpilot and leave a 1-star review.
​CRITICAL: Include your GamsGo Order ID in the review. If you don't, they will flag it as spam to delete it.
​They will email you within 24 hours begging you to delete the review for a refund. DO NOT DELETE OR CHANGE IT until the cash is physically sitting in your bank account. Store credits are a trap.
​STEP 2: File an FTC Fraud Complaint (US Federal Trade Commission)
Anthropic is an American company ignoring a massive billing flaw that enriches resellers. Go to reportfraud.ftc.gov and file a complaint against Anthropic PBC.
​Keep the FTC Report Number. It transforms your issue from a simple "billing error" to a "reported federal fraud case."
​STEP 3: Force a Chargeback with your Bank / Payment Gateway
Call your credit card company, PayPal, or local Payment Gateway (PG).
​Do not say "I want a refund." Say: "I bought a digital service, the seller revoked my access after a week, and they are refusing to refund. I have officially reported this to the US FTC for consumer fraud (give them the report number)." * Banks will almost always side with you when a federal report number is involved. If GamsGo asks you to cancel the chargeback first to "process the refund," IT IS A TRAP. Once you cancel a chargeback, you can never open it again.
​Stop waiting for Fin AI. Stop begging GamsGo. Hit their Trustpilot, file the FTC report, and chargeback immediately. Good luck.

Symptoms:

  • Billing page shows correct end date (May 11) but account shows Free plan
  • "Missing permissions" error when I tried to resubscribe

Support confirmed this is a backend bug but said they have no ticket system and cannot give a timeframe. Fin has replied with the same copy-paste response 6+ times across chat and email. No human has ever reviewed my case.

I'm experiencing the same issue. Gift Max 5x subscription (invoice XGFEV8CP-0001, April 11–May 11, 2026) worked for ~2 weeks, then silently reverted to Free plan with no notification. Support bot confirmed the issue is on the backend but cannot fix it. Five automated responses, no human agent, ticket still unresolved. Tweeted @AnthropicAI — no response after 2 hours.

Same issue here. Max 20x gift subscription silently downgraded to Free after ~7 days. Billing shows $0.00 invoice on Apr 25, 2026. Claude Code shows "organization has disabled subscription access." Support chat (Fin) cannot escalate because account is now Free — catch-22. Email sent to [support@anthropic.com](mailto:support@anthropic.com), awaiting response.

I'm experiencing the same issue. Gift subscription was purchased on June 4, 2026. The first activation attempt appeared to process but the subscription was never applied to my account. Now every attempt returns: "Gift no longer available. This gift code is no longer active."

All standard troubleshooting completed (cleared cache, disabled extensions, logged out/in, tried direct redemption link, no VPN). Contacted support@anthropic.com — they confirmed it's a backend processing error but are unable to manually activate or issue a replacement code.

Would appreciate any update on when this will be fixed.
