Summary
The rotating tip/promo banner on the Claude Code home (splash) screen reads:
"Tackle your toughest work with Opus 5. Switch anytime with /model."
However, no "Opus 5" model exists in the /model picker. The highest Opus available is Opus 4.8 (1M context). The banner text and the actual selectable models disagree, which is confusing — users try /model expecting to find Opus 5 and can't.
Steps to reproduce
- Open Claude Code (home / splash screen).
- Observe the tip banner: "Tackle your toughest work with Opus 5. Switch anytime with /model."
- Run
/model. - The model list shows: Default (Sonnet 5), Sonnet (Sonnet 5), Fable (Fable 5), Opus (Opus 4.8, 1M context), Haiku (Haiku 4.5).
Expected
The banner should reference a model that actually exists in the picker — e.g. Opus 4.8, or Fable 5 as the "most capable" option.
Actual
The banner advertises "Opus 5," which is not selectable and does not exist in the /model list.
Impact
Confusing to users — it looks like a model is missing or that there is an account/entitlement problem, when in fact the banner copy simply references a model that was never shipped under that name.
