What's Wrong?

What's Wrong?

The Cowork tab does not appear in the Claude Desktop app on Windows 11 Pro, despite Hyper-V being fully enabled, hardware virtualization being confirmed active, and a clean reinstall performed as administrator. The tab is completely absent from the UI — no error message is displayed.

Environment

  • Claude Desktop Version: [fill in — Help menu → About]
  • OS: Windows 11 Home, upgraded to Windows 11 Pro today (April 17, 2026)
  • Plan: Max
  • Install method: Downloaded Windows x64 installer from claude.com/download, ran as administrator

Verification Steps Completed

| Check | Result |
|---|---|
| Windows edition | ✅ Pro (upgraded from Home) |
| Task Manager → CPU → Virtualization | ✅ Enabled |
| Hyper-V Windows feature | ✅ Enabled (verified via Get-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Hyper-V-All) |
| Virtual Machine Platform | ✅ Enabled |
| Windows Hypervisor Platform | ✅ Enabled |
| Full reboot after feature install | ✅ Completed |
| Clean reinstall as administrator | ✅ Completed |
| Subscription | ✅ Max plan, active |

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro
  2. Enable Hyper-V, Virtual Machine Platform, and Windows Hypervisor Platform in Windows Features
  3. Restart computer
  4. Install latest Claude Desktop (Windows x64) as administrator
  5. Launch Claude Desktop and sign in (Max plan)
  6. Observe the sidebar — no Cowork tab present

Expected Behavior

The Cowork tab should appear in the sidebar alongside Chat and Code, since all documented requirements are met.

Actual Behavior

The Cowork tab is entirely absent from the navigation. No error message is shown. Regular Chat functions normally.

Additional Notes

This appears to match the symptoms in #48407 and the broader class of Cowork-on-Windows detection bugs (#27316, #27384, #27420, #29532, #42227). All hardware and OS requirements are verifiably met, but the Cowork tab never surfaces.

What Should Happen?

The Cowork tab should appear in the sidebar alongside Chat and Code, since all documented requirements are met.
