What's Wrong?

What's Wrong?

The Cowork tab permanently shows "Virtualization is not available — Claude's workspace requires Virtual Machine Platform, but the virtualization service isn't responding. Restart your computer to resolve this."

Restarting does not fix it. This appears to be the same issue as #27316, #27420, #29887, #32004, #37265, #45446, #45715.

Environment

| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Claude Desktop | v1.3109.0 (35cbf6) — 2026-04-16 |
| OS | Windows 11 Home 25H2 (Build 26200.8246) |
| Subscription | Pro |

Verification Steps Completed

| Check | Result |
|---|---|
| Virtualization Enabled In Firmware | ✅ Yes (confirmed via systeminfo) |
| VM Monitor Mode Extensions | ✅ Yes |
| Virtual Machine Platform | ✅ Enabled |
| CoworkVMService | ✅ Running |
| vmcompute service | ✅ Running |
| %APPDATA%\Claude\logs folder | ❌ Does not exist — VM never initializes |

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install Claude Desktop v1.3109.0 on Windows 11 Home 25H2
  2. Open Claude Desktop and navigate to the Cowork tab
  3. Observe "Virtualization is not available" error immediately
  4. Restart computer — error persists
  5. Confirm all virtualization services are running — error still persists

Expected Behavior

Cowork should detect that hardware virtualization is active and all required services are running, then successfully initialize the VM workspace.

Actual Behavior

Cowork permanently shows the virtualization error. The VM never initializes. The %APPDATA%\Claude\logs folder is never created, confirming the VM bundle never attempts to start.

Additional Notes

Regular chat in Claude Desktop works fine — only Cowork is affected. The error message is misleading as it suggests a BIOS/firmware issue, but firmware virtualization is confirmed enabled.

What Should Happen?

Cowork should detect that hardware virtualization is active and all required services are running, then successfully initialize the VM workspace.

Error Messages/Logs

Cowork permanently shows the virtualization error. The VM never initializes. The `%APPDATA%\Claude\logs` folder is never created, confirming the VM bundle never attempts to start.
