Preflight Checklist

  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Cowork fails to start with Claude Code process exited with code 1. The VM boots successfully but crashes every time when trying to set up internal networking.

System info:

OS: Windows 11 Home
CPU: AMD (SVM Mode enabled in BIOS)
Claude Desktop: v1.3036.0
Subscription: Pro

What I already tried:

Enabled Virtual Machine Platform and Windows Hypervisor Platform via optionalfeatures and PowerShell DISM commands
Enabled SVM Mode in BIOS (this fixed the initial HYPERVISOR_SERVICE_ERROR)
Uninstalled Surfshark VPN including its network adapter
Confirmed only one network adapter remains (Realtek Ethernet)
Restarted multiple times

Current error in log (%APPDATA%\Claude\logs\cowork_vm_node.log):
[warn] [vm-stderr] Error: Failed to create bridge sockets after 5 attempts
[info] [Process] Exited, code=1, signal=null
What's working: VM boots successfully and reaches "Startup complete" — the failure happens after boot when Claude Code tries to create bridge sockets.
