[BUG] Unable to purchase API credits — "Payment failed" error with valid credit card

What's Wrong?

I am unable to purchase API credits through the Anthropic Console billing page (https://console.anthropic.com/settings/billing). When I click "Buy credits," enter an amount, and attempt to submit, I receive a "Payment failed. Please try again" error.

  • The credit card is valid and works on other platforms.
  • This is not a card decline issue — the card has sufficient funds and the billing address is correct.
  • I have tried multiple attempts and the result is the same each time.
  • The submit/purchase button is grayed out and unresponsive before eventually showing the payment failed message.

This appears to be the same or a similar issue as #25745.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Log in to https://console.anthropic.com
  2. Navigate to Settings > Billing
  3. Click "Buy credits"
  4. Enter a credit amount
  5. Confirm purchase
  6. Result: "Payment failed. Please try again."

Expected Behavior

The payment should process successfully and credits should be added to my account balance.

Environment

Additional Context

  • The credit card is a standard credit card (not prepaid or virtual).
  • The card works on other websites and services without issue.
  • Clearing cache/cookies and retrying did not resolve the issue.
  • This is blocking me from using the Anthropic API.
