[BUG] Desktop 2.37337.1 (Windows, Store/MSIX): built-in "Routines" sidebar section is forced hidden on every launch, and there is no UI toggle to show it
Environment
- Claude Desktop 2.37337.1, Windows Store/MSIX package (
Claude_pzs8sxrjxfjjc), self-updated on 2026-10-13 15:11 local time - Windows 11 Pro 10.0.26200
- Code tab, sidebar in sections layout (
sidebarMode: epitaxy)
What happened
After the update, the dedicated Routines section disappeared from the Code-tab sidebar. It used to list my four routines (three local scheduled tasks: a weekday 7:59 am morning brief, a nightly Dependabot sweep, a Sun/Wed/Fri security sweep; plus one cloud routine). The tasks themselves still run on schedule and their runs still exist; only the sidebar section is gone.
The section still exists in the app's sidebar model, but flagged hidden. The app's own list_sections tool reports:
{ "id": "routines", "kind": "routines", "shown": false, "collapsed": true, "session_count": 0 }
There is no way in the UI to turn it back on:
- Section-header context menu offers only: New session, New section, Rename section, Move down, Select all, Collapse all, Archive all, Delete section.
- The View menu has no sections entry.
- The docs (desktop-scheduled-tasks, routines) say "click Routines in the sidebar or in the sidebar's More menu", but no Routines toggle appears in any menu I could find.
- Creating a custom section named "Routines" does not help: routine runs cannot be moved into it (
move_sessions→ "Routine runs show under their routine, not as their own sidebar rows, so they can't be grouped, pinned or marked").
What I tried (all failed)
- Sidebar MCP tools.
set_view(section_id="routines", …)only reportssection_shown: false; no tool can setshownon a built-in section. - Computer use. Cannot be granted on Claude's own window (by design), so no agent can click the toggle even if one existed.
- Editing the persisted state while the app was fully closed. Both copies of the sections object were set to
shown: true, collapsed: falseand verified on disk, then the app was relaunched:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Claude_pzs8sxrjxfjjc\LocalCache\Roaming\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json→preferences.epitaxyPrefs["dframe-code-sections"][<account/org>].sections[kind == "routines"]- renderer localStorage for origin
https://claude.ai, keyLSS-persisted.dframe-code-sections(Local Storage LevelDB)
Result: within 8 seconds of launch (processes started 14:12:11, config rewritten 14:12:19) the app wrote both stores back to shown: false, collapsed: true. So the hidden state is re-derived at startup from something other than the two persisted stores (a remote/feature flag, a server-synced preference, or a code default), and a user preference cannot override it.
- Plain app restarts (several) make no difference.
Expected
Either the Routines section is visible by default for accounts that have routines/scheduled tasks, or there is an explicit, discoverable toggle (sidebar More menu or a "Customize sidebar" dialog) and the persisted shown preference is respected on launch.
Impact
The routines that run my daily operations (morning brief, nightly security and dependency sweeps) are invisible in the place I check every day; about 1.5 hours were lost establishing that the tasks were still running and that the section cannot be re-enabled.
Workarounds found
- The Scheduled entry (clock icon near the top of the sidebar, under Artifacts) opens the routines page, which lists the local scheduled tasks and their runs.
- Cloud routines are reachable directly at https://claude.ai/code/routines.
