Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing requests and this feature hasn't been requested yet
  • [x] This is a single feature request (not multiple features)

Problem Statement

I use the voice feature to describe ideas to Claude using the Desktop app. Often, this process is iterative. I start by speaking my first idea into the microphone, pause the voice feature and think what else I would like to add to the prompt. Unfortunately, the voice input button disappears once there is text in the text field.
To combine multiple speech-to-text voice chunks, one is required to temporary copy the text from the text field, remove the text so the voice button reappears and then add the copied text back once the voice note is finished.

Proposed Solution

I would like the voice button to permanently stay in the input box. The newly transcribed voice note could then simply be added to the current position of the cursor in the text box.

Alternative Solutions

In theory, one could just send multiple prompts. But this would also imply that the output would be split into multiple replies which makes it a lot harder to read.

Priority

Medium - Would be very helpful

Use Case Example

  1. I describe a new feature I want to build.
  2. I use the speech-to-text feature to transcribe what I want that feature to look like.
  3. I pause the voice mode and the text is transcribed.
  4. I think of another thing I would like to add to the feature and would like to use speech-to-text to append it to the current prompt.
