Voice dictation only works once per app session (Claude Desktop, Windows)
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
Environment: Claude Desktop, Windows, version [___], main Chat tab (not Cowork)
The first dictation attempt after launching the app works correctly. Any
dictation attempt after that, in the same session, fails to activate or
produce a transcript. This has been consistent for the past several days.
Fully shutting down the computer (not just closing the app) does not fix
it — each fresh launch allows exactly one working dictation before it
breaks again for the rest of that session.
What Should Happen?
Dictation should be resumable into a message that already has content,
including content that dictation itself just produced. A natural thinking
pause shouldn't remove the mic from the input box or block further voice
input into that message.
Error Messages/Logs
Steps to Reproduce
- Launch Claude Desktop (Windows), fresh session.
- Dictate a message — works normally.
- Send the message (or stop dictation).
- Attempt to dictate again, in a new message.
- Mic fails to activate / no transcript is produced.
Note: this appears related to a previously reported issue describing the
same "works once, breaks on second attempt" pattern in the Cowork tab
(mic session not released after first use) — this report confirms the same
behavior in the main Chat tab, and that it persists across full system
restarts, not just app relaunches.
