Problem Statement

Claude Code shows a persistent "update installed • restart to update" message after auto-updating. The only existing controls (DISABLE_AUTOUPDATER, autoUpdatesChannel, minimumVersion) suppress this by disabling the update itself, rather than just the notification. I want updates to keep installing automatically in the background, but without the recurring message.

Proposed Solution

Add a settings.json flag such as "suppressUpdateNotification": true that hides the "update installed • restart to update" message while leaving the auto-updater fully functional. Auto-update continues as normal; only the notification is silenced.

Alternative Solutions

The only current workaround is setting DISABLE_AUTOUPDATER: 1, but that also stops updates from installing, which isn't what I want.
