[BUG] Mic button disappears after one dictation string, only returns after clearing input box (macOS desktop)
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
After completing one string of dictation in the main chat input, the microphone button disappears and is replaced by the Send button. There is no way to start a new dictation — the mic button only reappears after I erase all text in the input box.
Dictation itself works: transcribed text lands in the input box correctly. The only problem is the missing mic button afterward, which blocks dictating a second string without clearing what I've already typed.
What Should Happen?
Expected: The mic button remains available so I can append additional dictation to existing text without clearing it.
Actual: Mic button is absent whenever the input box contains text; only returns when the box is emptied.

Steps to Reproduce
- Open Claude Desktop on macOS, click into the main chat input.
- Click the mic button, dictate a string of sentences, stop.
- Text lands in the input box correctly; button now shows Send.
- Attempt to dictate again — no mic button is present.
- Erase all text in the input box — mic button reappears.

also on Windows 10, same behavior.
I am using windows 11, desktop app. I noticed this behavior about a day or two ago for myself as well.
Reproduced on claude.ai web in Chrome on Windows 11 and the Windows desktop app, started the same week you filed. Confirms this isn't macOS-specific or desktop-only. I've filed a consolidated report with screenshots of every composer state at #90618 , including an iOS comparison: the current iPhone app renders the mic and Send together with text present and lets you restart dictation freely, so this is a state-machine choice in the new composer, not a layout necessity. It also interacts badly with the new silence auto-stop (#74534): dictation times out mid-thought and then can't be resumed at all.
