Weekly usage metered ~4x too fast after weekly reset on account upgraded from Max 5x to 20x (fixed by /logout + re-login)

Environment

  • Claude Code version: 2.1.201
  • Platform: Windows 11 Pro (10.0.26200)
  • Plan: Claude Max (claude.ai shows "Max 20x", but another device showed "Max 5x" for the same account — see below)

Bug Description
Weekly usage quota was consumed roughly 4–8x faster than normal after a weekly reset,
until I logged out and back in. The consumption rate then returned to normal.

Details

  1. Account history: the account was originally on Max 5x and was later upgraded to Max 20x mid-cycle.

The accelerated consumption started immediately after the first weekly reset following the upgrade
consistent with the quota being metered against the old 5x tier after the reset.

  1. Before the reset, with the same usage pattern, reaching 100% of the weekly limit

took approximately 14.6M tokens of Fable 5 usage.

  1. Immediately after the weekly reset, I confirmed usage was at 0%.
  2. After only about 1.5M tokens of Fable 5 usage, the meter showed

Fable 5: 81% / overall weekly: 51% — roughly 4–8x faster consumption
than before the reset, with no change in how I was using it.

  1. Possibly related: the plan display is inconsistent across surfaces —

claude.ai shows Max 20x, while another device showed Max 5x
for the same account. This suggests the quota may have been metered
against the 5x tier instead of 20x.

  1. Workaround: running /logout and logging back in restored the normal

consumption rate.

Steps to Reproduce
Not reliably reproducible; occurred right after a weekly usage reset.

  1. Be on a Max 20x plan (upgraded from Max 5x) around a weekly reset boundary.
  2. Use Claude Code normally after the reset.
  3. Observe the weekly usage meter climbing far faster than token usage justifies.

Expected Behavior
Weekly usage should be metered against the Max 20x quota consistently,
matching pre-reset consumption rates for the same workload.

Actual Behavior
Usage was consumed ~4–8x faster until /logout + re-login.

Additional Context

  • Impact: Because the weekly Fable 5 quota is consumed ~4x too fast, I am effectively

unable to use Fable 5 for most of the week despite paying for Max 20x.

  • /status + /usage output (redacted), taken on a freshly logged-in machine:
Version: 2.1.201
Session ID: [REDACTED]
Login method: Claude Max account
Organization: [REDACTED]'s Organization
Email: [REDACTED]

Model: Default (Opus 4.8 with 1M context)

Current session
██████████▌ 21% used
Resets 10:39am (Etc/GMT-9)

Current week (all models)
███████████████████████████▌ 55% used
Resets Jul 13, 5:59pm (Etc/GMT-9)

Current week (Fable)
█████████████████████████████████████████▌ 83% used
Resets Jul 13, 5:59pm (Etc/GMT-9)
  • Note: /status shows only "Claude Max account" and does not indicate the 5x/20x tier,

so I could not confirm from the CLI which tier the quota is being metered against.
