[BUG] Claude Max invoice paid but account remains past_due; Claude Code access blocked and cancellation page stuck
Preflight Checklist

- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
I am experiencing a billing sync/access issue affecting Claude Code and Claude web.
My Claude Max invoice shows as Paid, but my account still remains blocked as past_due. Because of this, Claude Code shows the error:
“Your organization has disabled Claude subscription access for Claude Code · Use an Anthropic API key instead, or ask your admin to enable access.”
I searched existing issues and found a similar closed issue, but I am filing this because the problem is still reproducible and unresolved for my account.
https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues/32918
Claude web/Desktop also shows:
“Your subscription payment is past due. Please pay your overdue invoice to restore access.”
What happened:
- Claude Max invoice shows Paid
- Account remains past_due
- Claude web/Desktop access is blocked
- Claude Code subscription access is blocked
- Cancellation page is stuck loading on web, desktop app, and mobile
- Support bot has documented the issue multiple times but no human resolution yet
Invoice/payment details:
- Payment amount: US$236.00
- Payment date: May 12, 2026
- Invoice ID: F1A1E708-0009

What Should Happen?
Expected behavior:
After a paid invoice, the Claude Max subscription should be restored from past_due to active, and Claude Code should allow subscription access again. If access cannot be restored, the cancellation page should work, or manual cancellation should be completed.
Actual behavior:
The invoice is paid, but the account remains past_due. Claude Code and Claude web are blocked. The cancellation page does not load properly.
Environment:
- Claude Code version: 2.1.140
- Platform: macOS darwin-arm64
- VS Code: 1.119.1 arm64
Impact:
I have paid for Claude Max but cannot use Claude web, Claude Desktop, or Claude Code. I also cannot cancel through the billing page to prevent future charges.
Request:
Please escalate this as a billing sync/entitlement bug affecting Claude Code subscription access. I need either:
- Manual restoration from past_due to active, or
- Manual cancellation confirmation with no future charges.
Error Messages/Logs
Your subscription payment is past due. Please pay your overdue invoice to restore access
Steps to Reproduce
- Have an active Claude Max subscription using Claude Code subscription access.
- A subscription renewal/payment initially enters past_due state.
- Complete the overdue payment successfully.
- Go to Claude billing page and confirm the invoice now shows as Paid.
- Try to access Claude web or Claude Desktop.
- Observe that access is still blocked with:
“Your subscription payment is past due. Please pay your overdue invoice to restore access.”
- Open Claude Code CLI and run:
claude
- Check status or try to use Claude Code with subscription access.
- Observe Claude Code still blocks subscription access with:
“Your organization has disabled Claude subscription access for Claude Code · Use an Anthropic API key instead, or ask your admin to enable access.”
- Go back to Claude billing page and try to cancel the subscription.
- Click Cancel.
- Observe that the cancellation section/page gets stuck loading and manual cancellation cannot be completed from web, desktop app, or mobile.
Expected behaviour
After the overdue invoice is paid and the billing page shows the invoice as Paid, the Claude Max subscription status should update from past_due to active.
Claude web, Claude Desktop, and Claude Code subscription access should be restored.
If access cannot be restored, the billing page should still allow the user to cancel the subscription successfully.
Actual behaviour
The invoice shows Paid, but the account remains blocked as past_due.
Claude web/Desktop still shows:
“Your subscription payment is past due. Please pay your overdue invoice to restore access.”
Claude Code shows:
“Your organization has disabled Claude subscription access for Claude Code · Use an Anthropic API key instead, or ask your admin to enable access.”
The cancellation page also gets stuck loading, so the user cannot cancel the subscription to prevent future charges.

Adding clarification:
This issue is not only a local macOS auth problem. It appears to be a subscription entitlement/billing sync issue affecting Claude Code authentication.
Claude billing page shows the invoice as Paid, but the Claude account remains past_due. Because of that, Claude Code blocks subscription access with:
“Your organization has disabled Claude subscription access for Claude Code · Use an Anthropic API key instead, or ask your admin to enable access.”
Claude web/Desktop are also blocked with:
“Your subscription payment is past due. Please pay your overdue invoice to restore access.”
So from Claude Code side, this appears as an auth/entitlement failure, but the trigger seems to be paid invoice not syncing to active subscription status.

I am adding this comment to prevent auto-closure.
I reviewed the possible duplicate issues. My issue is still active and unresolved, and it has now been ongoing for more than three weeks.
This is not only a general past_due message. In my case:
This appears to be the same underlying billing sync/entitlement bug, but it is still affecting active users and needs to remain open or be linked to an active tracking issue.

Claude Code error:
“Your organization has disabled Claude subscription access for Claude Code · Use an Anthropic API key instead, or ask your admin to enable access.”
Claude web/Desktop error:
“Your subscription payment is past due. Please pay your overdue invoice to restore access.”
Please do not auto-close this as resolved. The issue is still occurring after more than three weeks and requires billing/backend intervention.
Important billing clarification:
If Anthropic restores my account now, please confirm that I will not be charged another US$236 immediately or on the next billing date without adjustment.
My May 12 invoice F1A1E708-0009 for US$236.00 shows Paid, but I have not been able to use Claude Max for more than three weeks because my account remained stuck as past_due.
I need one of the following:
OR
Please confirm the next billing date and whether any charge will happen while this billing sync issue remains unresolved.
Update: This appears to be part of a broader Claude billing/auth entitlement sync issue, not an isolated account problem.
A similar recent issue was raised by another user where: https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues/66558
My case follows the same entitlement-sync pattern, but with an additional impact:
This confirms the issue is not simply a local Claude Code/macOS auth problem. Claude Code is affected because the paid subscription entitlement is not syncing correctly from billing/account status.
Even if this repository is not the final ownership boundary for billing, please route this internally to the billing/auth entitlement team rather than closing it as invalid. The public issue history suggests a repeated paid-invoice/no-entitlement failure pattern.
Update:
There is still no response from Anthropic on this GitHub issue or through support.
This issue has now been unresolved for over one month.
Current state:
This confirms the issue does not automatically resolve on the next billing cycle.
Even if this repository is not the final billing owner, Claude Code is directly affected because subscription entitlement/auth remains blocked. Please route this internally to the billing/auth entitlement team instead of leaving the issue without action.
@claude Additional related evidence:
I found another recent Claude billing issue where users reported repeated API/auto-recharge charges and support delays. That issue is technically different from mine because my case is not an API auto-recharge loop.
My case is a Claude.ai Max subscription entitlement sync issue:
However, the broader pattern appears similar: Anthropic billing state becomes inconsistent, support bot misroutes or documents the issue without backend resolution, and users are left without access or clear cancellation/refund handling.
I have also confirmed that platform.claude.com / Workbench API access works separately, which suggests my Anthropic account itself is not disabled. The broken part is specifically Claude.ai subscription entitlement/billing sync.
Adding related public, privacy-sanitized billing/entitlement context from a separate unresolved Claude billing case, because this looks like the same class of ledger-to-product-state mismatch that needs a Billing Platform / payment-operations owner rather than another generic support loop.
Public case hub:
https://coolak.github.io/anthropic-claude-billing-incident/
Reconciliation matrix:
https://coolak.github.io/anthropic-claude-billing-incident/reconciliation-matrix.html
The separate case has a different surface area: manual prepaid Claude usage-credit purchases fail or lose the advertised discounted checkout state, while automatic usage-credit top-ups from the same saved billing setup keep charging successfully. The overlap is not a claimed shared root cause; it is the operational pattern where billing records and product entitlement / usable balance state disagree, while support automation cannot reconcile the backend state.
For this thread, the key owner question seems to be: how can a paid invoice state coexist with
past_due/ blocked subscription access / stuck cancellation state, and which internal ledger or entitlement propagation job failed to map payment state to usable access? That is the kind of question only a human billing/backend owner with invoice, subscription, entitlement, and auth-state visibility can answer.Same bug, but on a Team plan (enterprise, 40 seats) rather than Max — adding our case since it confirms this is not limited to individual subscriptions, and because our troubleshooting produced a diagnostic detail that may help isolate the root cause.
Our case
d14514b5-2ef3-455b-84a7-da58c081d079Same banner as reported above: "Your subscription is past due, so your access has been paused. To restore access, change your payment method and pay your past due invoice." — with no unpaid invoice to pay.
Additional diagnostic: the
past_dueflag appears to be orphanedThis is the part I haven't seen documented in this thread or in #32918.
1. Seat operations are blocked by the flag. Attempting to adjust seat count in Organization settings > Billing returns:
2. No collection attempt is ever made. I registered five different payment methods — three Visa, two Mastercard, all Chilean-issued. None triggered a charge, an authorization hold, or a 3DS verification prompt.
That second point seems significant. If a genuine outstanding invoice existed, registering a new payment method should trigger a collection attempt against it. Nothing happens at all. This suggests the subscription object carries a
past_dueflag with no corresponding unpaid invoice behind it — a stale flag that continues to gate every billing, seat, and access operation on the org while the invoice ledger shows everything settled. If that's correct, then the instruction in the banner ("change your payment method and pay your past due invoice") can never resolve the state, because there is nothing to pay. Which would explain why affected users in this thread cycle through payment methods indefinitely with no effect.
On the Team plan there is no self-service path at all
Worth noting for anyone triaging this: on Team, Organization settings > Billing offers no resubscribe or reactivate option. The only available action is "Cancel plan," which we have deliberately not used — cancelling would risk a duplicate charge for 40 seats already paid for, with no guarantee of credit. So there is no user-side recovery path whatsoever.

Impact
40 users without access since August 12. Engineering is running on API keys as a stopgap; non-technical users have no access at all. We are paying for a Team subscription we cannot use.
Request
Could this be triaged as a billing-entitlement bug affecting Team/enterprise orgs, not just individual plans? Specifically, it would help to know whether the fix requires clearing the stale
past_dueflag server-side, and whether affected orgs can be identified in bulk rather than one ticket at a time.Happy to provide screenshots or transaction IDs.
