Toolbar icons overlap and spacing breaks on Arabic Windows environment

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

The toolbar icons in Claude Desktop overlap and appear incorrectly spaced on Windows.

Although the application interface language is English, the toolbar layout appears partially rendered as RTL (right-to-left), causing broken alignment and inconsistent spacing between icons.

The issue is visible immediately after launching the application.

I already tried:

  • Changing the system locale to English (United States)
  • Setting display scaling to 100%
  • Restarting both the application and the system

The issue still persists.

Environment:

  • Claude Desktop version: 1.6.608.2
  • Windows 11 Home Single Language
  • Version 23H2
  • OS Build 22631.6199
  • Display scaling: 100%
  • Windows display language: Arabic (Saudi Arabia)
  • Region: United States
  • Regional format: English (United Arab Emirates)

This was observed on a fresh installation performed today.

What Should Happen?

Toolbar icons and navigation controls should be properly aligned and evenly spaced in the English interface regardless of the Windows display language or regional settings.

The application should correctly handle Arabic Windows environments without causing RTL layout conflicts or toolbar rendering issues.

Error Messages/Logs

No explicit error messages are shown.

The issue is purely visual/UI-related and affects the toolbar layout rendering in the desktop application.

Observed behavior:

Toolbar icons overlap each other
Spacing between controls is inconsistent
Navigation arrows appear visually misaligned
The toolbar partially behaves like an RTL-rendered interface despite the application language being English

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install Claude Desktop on Windows 11 Home Single Language (Arabic edition)
  2. Keep the Windows display language set to:
  • Arabic (Saudi Arabia)
  1. Launch Claude Desktop normally
  2. Observe the top toolbar area
  3. The toolbar icons appear overlapped with incorrect spacing and partial RTL-style rendering

Additional environment details:

  • Claude Desktop version: 1.6.608.2
  • Windows Version: 23H2
  • OS Build: 22631.6199
  • Display Scaling: 100%
  • Region: United States
  • Regional Format: English (United Arab Emirates)

Troubleshooting already attempted:

  • Changed system locale to English (United States)
  • Set display scaling to 100%
  • Restarted the application and system

The issue still persists after all troubleshooting attempts.

Additional Information

This issue appears to be specifically related to Arabic Windows environments and RTL/LTR layout rendering behavior.

The problem persists even after:

  • Changing the system locale to English (United States)
  • Setting display scaling to 100%
  • Restarting the system and the application

Since this system uses Windows 11 Home Single Language (Arabic edition), changing the Windows display language is not possible.

The issue is reproducible immediately after launching the application on a fresh installation.
