[BUG] Cowork tab missing on Windows 11 Home — Pro Annual subscriber paying for inaccessible feature
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
Environment
Claude Desktop: v1.3109.0 (35cbf6)
OS: Windows 11 Home Single Language, Build 26200.8246
Plan: Claude Pro Annual ($200/year)
Problem
The Cowork tab does not appear in Claude Desktop. Only Chat is visible. Cowork settings are accessible in Settings, and Dispatch is enabled, but the tab itself is absent with no error message or explanation.
Root cause confirmed
Windows 11 Home does not include the Hyper-V VMMS service required by Cowork's VM sandbox. The app silently suppresses the tab instead of showing a clear error.
Key issues
The official documentation never stated Windows Home is unsupported — only ARM64 was mentioned as unsupported. Pro subscribers on Windows Home had no way to know this before purchasing.
There is no graceful error message — the tab simply disappears.
No workaround exists for Windows Home users.
Request
Add Windows Home as explicitly unsupported in the system requirements documentation.
Consider WSL2 as an alternative backend to support Windows Home users.
Provide compensation or a workaround for Pro Annual subscribers affected by this undisclosed limitation.
