What's Wrong?

Bug: Claude in Chrome — all sites blocked in Cowork mode (was working previously)
Plan: Pro (individual)
What happened: Claude in Chrome was able to access Etsy.com and Printful.com in my Cowork session last night (March 29, 2026). Today (March 30), every single site returns "This site is blocked by your organization's policy" — including google.com, amazon.com, etsy.com, and printful.com. No network requests are even attempted; the extension blocks navigation before any request is made.
Impact: My entire Cowork project depends on Claude managing my Etsy shop (PersonaPatterns). Without browser access to Etsy and Printful dashboards, I cannot use Claude to check orders, respond to customers, manage listings, or monitor fulfillment. This is the core use case I'm paying for.
I am not on a Team or Enterprise plan — there is no organization admin setting blocklists. This is a personal account.
Steps to reproduce:

Open Cowork session
Claude in Chrome tries to navigate to any URL
Returns "This site is blocked by your organization's policy"

Expected: Same browser access I had last night.
Related issue: #30861

What Should Happen?

I need it to work on etsy.com like it did yesterday.!!!

Also happening to me, all websites get this error

AbstractEyes · 3 months ago

Same problem. I just installed it to try it out and ended up with this issue.

AbstractEyes · 3 months ago

I have the answer, my issue was in Chrome using the extension.

So this setting must be set to whitelist sites, or make all sites available. Take your pick.

my issues was with some specific sites. I already added the sites but they were not working..... BUT it is fixed NOW!!! :)

Same issue. Pro plan (individual), no organization. All sites blocked with "blocked by your organization's policy". Location: Asia. Clearing cache/cookies did not help.

Happening to me with my company websites, but it looks like it works fine on Google.com and it's blocking legitimate QA test automation.

dquillman · 3 months ago

Yes...but there was a bug that was recently fixed. Before this setting was
ignored.

This was my issue. Somehow, this setting must have changed itself during an upgrade or magically started working. The setting itself is found in the web app settings interface.

I'm on Pro plan extension version 1.0.66.

The work around that I used to allowlist sites one-by-one instead of just turning everything on:

claude.ai (I use the windows app) → Settings → Claude in Chrome → Allowed websites → Add website → restart Chrome completely

This is a terribly clunky way to allowlist a site. The claude subpanel in Chrome should have a single button that allows me to allowlist a site on-the-fly. Shutting down and restarting Chrome for every allowlist is excessive.

-edit for more info-

I re-installed Claude because somehow cowork was disabled and the app asked to re-install to get it operational. Upon re-install, the allowlist of my websites was lost in the Chrome extension. I had to, once again, restart Chrome -- but didn't have to change any setting anywhere else.

So

allowlisted site was working in Claude for Chrome extension -> re-installed Claude windows app -> site now blocklisted in Claude for Chrome extension -> restarted Chrome -> site again allowlisted.

-edit 2 for more info-

Everything was working, and then my allowlisted site was blocklisted again. Some kind of allowlist sync issue, I guess.

20x pro plan, individual, no managed org. Attempted to

  1. Fully quit and reopen Chrome (not just the sidepanel).
  2. Click the extension → Settings → Permissions, and check if google.com got added to a blocklist somehow. Per the docs, you can review which sites have "always allow" status under Your approved sites Claude there.
  3. Sign out of the extension and back in.
  4. Reinstall the extension.

I'm getting the same issue. It worked fine yesterday, and now, it doesn't work at all.

@devguyjk do you continue to see this error? are you on 1.0.68? Based on your screenshot you ran in to this using the sidepanel in the extension (not via Cowork), correct? Could you verify that you haven't set the default policy to "Block extension" under "Claude in Chrome settings" on https://claude.ai?

For anyone landing here after the recent fix: the underlying cause turned out to be the extension's own default permission setting (previously ignored due to a bug, now correctly enforced). Set "default permission for new sites" to Ask or Allow in extension settings and the overlay disappears.

Two things that are still genuinely broken though, both worth maintainer attention:

  1. Error wording. "Blocked by your organization's policy" is wrong on personal accounts. The actual sources are either the user's own default-permission preference or Anthropic's classifier — neither is "your organization." Suggested wording: "Blocked by Claude — change default permission in extension settings" when the source is the user's preference, "Blocked by Claude — this site is in a restricted category" when it's the classifier. With chrome.storage.managed empty (no MDM), the "organization" wording should never appear. This single change would have saved a lot of confused users in this thread.
  1. Stale OAuth tokens silently fail-closed. Separate issue I hit during diagnosis: chrome.storage.local.tokenExpiry can claim a token is valid years into the future while the server returns 401 on it. The extension doesn't pre-flight refresh, doesn't catch the 401 from /url_hash_check as recoverable, and routes that failure through the same blocked.html path — producing the identical overlay for a completely different cause. A 401 from the classifier endpoint should trigger token refresh or a re-auth prompt, not a policy-block UI. Same architectural pattern as #22602, #33811, #33879.

Conflating "your settings block this," "Claude's classifier blocks this," and "your auth is stale" into a single overlay that claims "your organization" did it is the actual bug here.

Same issue on a personal Claude Max plan — no Team/Enterprise, no MDM, no admin blocklist. Claude in Chrome / Cowork automation returns "This site is blocked by your organization's policy" on every site.

Confirmed blocked (all in one session):

tomin-family.devbase.pro (my company CRM)

www.pager.co.ua

my.binotel.ua

messenger.smartsender.com

example.com (neutral control — also blocked, so it's literally all sites)

Key facts that rule out a local/org policy:

Personal Max, Org ID 51e470fd-2958-4722-8375-8c14824183df; there is no "Organization settings" / admin panel on my account.

Settings → Claude in Chrome: "Allow extension", blocklist empty.

Settings → Capabilities: network egress ON, Domain allowlist = "All domains".

All these domains open normally in regular Chrome — only Claude's automation is blocked.

It worked earlier in the same session, then started blocking; updating/reinstalling the extension made it worse (went from one domain to all sites).

This is clearly the server-side org_policy:"block" misclassification described here. Please prioritize a fix or a user-facing whitelist — browser automation is currently 100% unusable. Support ticket also opened.
