Remote Control feature fails ~90% of the time despite showing 'active' status

Description

The Remote Control feature in Claude Code is unreliable. It works approximately 10% of the time, yet the status line consistently shows "Remote Control active" in green — giving no indication that the connection has silently failed.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Start Claude Code in the terminal
  2. Activate Remote Control (via /remote-control)
  3. Status line shows "Remote Control active" in green
  4. Attempt to use Remote Control from the connected client — fails most of the time

Expected Behavior

Remote Control should reliably connect and function when the status line indicates it is active. If the connection fails, the status should reflect that.

Actual Behavior

  • Status line shows "Remote Control active" (green) even when the feature is not working
  • Feature works only ~10% of the time
  • No error message or indication when the connection silently fails

Environment

  • Platform: macOS (Darwin 24.5.0)
  • Shell: zsh
