Bug Report

Claude Code returns API Error: Rate limit reached on every request despite usage being well below limits.

  • Extra usage spent: $15.25 / $50.00 (30%)

Current Usage (from /status)

| Metric | Value | Resets |
|--------|-------|--------|
| Current session | 2% | 4am ET |
| Current week (all models) | 0% | Mar 31, 11pm ET |
| Current week (Sonnet only) | 62% | 3am ET |
| Extra usage remaining | $34.75 | — |

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Claude Code on Max plan with Extra Usage enabled
  2. Send any request
  3. Immediately rejected with API Error: Rate limit reached — no retry timer provided

Steps Taken

  • Full /logout and /login — issue persists
  • Confirmed subscription is active and extra usage budget has remaining capacity

Expected Behavior

At 62% of the Sonnet weekly limit with $34.75 of extra usage remaining, requests should continue to be processed normally.

Actual Behavior

Every request is immediately rejected with API Error: Rate limit reached. No retry timer or cooldown information is provided.

Environment

  • macOS 26.3.1 (Apple M4 Pro)
  • Claude Code (latest)
