Cannot type Chinese characters with Rime (鼠须管) input method

Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Mar 24, 2026 by WilsonCheee Closed Mar 28, 2026

Description

Unable to input Chinese characters in Claude Code CLI using the Rime input method (鼠须管/Squirrel) on macOS. The IME composition window does not work properly, making it impossible to type Chinese directly in the prompt.

Environment

  • OS: macOS (Darwin 24.3.0)
  • Input method: Rime (鼠须管/Squirrel)
  • Claude Code: CLI version

Steps to reproduce

  1. Switch to Rime (鼠须管) input method
  2. Open Claude Code CLI in terminal
  3. Try to type Chinese characters in the prompt
  4. Characters are not composed/input correctly

Expected behavior

Chinese characters should be composable and inputtable via IME, similar to other interactive CLI tools that support CJK input.

Current workaround

Copy and paste Chinese text from another application.
