Claude using my personal account rather than my organization account (same email)

Resolved 💬 20 comments Opened Mar 6, 2025 by TonyD-TuftAndPaw Closed Apr 4, 2025

Duplicate / re-opening of #199

The suggested solution is to select "Switch account" and/or "Switch organization".

My account only has the "Switch Account" button. I tap it, log in using my email (same email for both), but it won't let me choose a new organization, and plops me back to a page reading "Claude Code would like to connect to your Anthropic organization Tony's Individual Organization".

I can't delete my personal (trial) account without support's help either, so I'm stuck.

Probably related: I cannot access my team organization through the API console at https://console.anthropic.com/dashboard - I'm can only access "Tony's Individual Organization".

The API Console, with only my personal organization:

Claude AI settings, with both organizations:

After /login and switching to my employer's account, Claude Code creates a new API key (even though I already made keys for it), and continues to accrue charges against my personal account. How can I override the key used? Kind of a big blocker.

Add a plus one to this issue as @theronic states it

adamsteen · 1 year ago

To put it simply allow us to add an API Key rather then Trying to create one

this appears to be fix enough for me

+1 for simply allowing user to add API key.

@levpopov @ashwin-ant Would you be able to take a look at this issue as it did not resolve and others are having the same issue? Thanks!

Thanks for the report @TonyD-TuftAndPaw - please ask your team org admin to re-invite you to your team console.anthropic.com organization so you can sign in (these are distinct from your team's claude.ai organizations)

ghost · 1 year ago

@theronic - could you try $ claude /logout and re-auth? this should make sure the correct organization is used for your claude usage

bakert · 1 year ago

I have the exact same problem. I got the admin to re-invite me. Did not fix. No amount of claude /logoutor similar helped. claude.ai knows I'm part of an organization but console.antrhopic.com will not accept this reality.

ghost · 1 year ago

@bakert - could you ask your team admin to invite you to your console.anthropic.com organization? Console organizations are separate from claude.ai organizations.

bakert · 1 year ago

@levpopov That was indeed it. Thank you.

Same issue, upgraded to Max on a personal account, claude code keeps connecting to the organization account and creates the API in the wrong account. It won't use the Max plan. How do I get it to connect to claude.ai? Both my personal and organization accounts share the same email.

ghost · 1 year ago

Hi @guidedways - could you try updating to the latest version with claude update? Then when you run claude /login it will guide you through setting up claude with your Max acct

guidedways · 1 year ago

Claude update would not work. I had to clear npm caches, delete everything and reinstall to make it work. Thanks, working now.

I had to request API access from my organization (which is different than projects access in the browser). Once I was granted API access, upon logging in I was prompted to select the organization (company or individual)
