[BUG] Claude Code hangs/freezes mid-response frequently (v2.1.79, macOS, M4 Pro)

What's Wrong?

Claude Code frequently freezes mid-response during active work. The CLI stops outputting text and becomes unresponsive, requiring Ctrl+C to
kill.

• Version: 2.1.79 (latest)
• OS: macOS Sequoia, Apple M4 Pro, 24GB RAM
• Memory: 57% free, 0MB swap — not a resource issue
• Network: 95/67 Mbps, API latency 0.2s — not a network issue
• Reproduction: Happens randomly during long responses. claude update also hung indefinitely instead of reporting "already up to date."
• Impact: Losing conversation context mid-task. Have to restart and re-explain everything. Rebooting machine does not fix it.

This is not a local resource or network issue. Confirmed by diagnostics after full reboot with clean state.

What Should Happen?

Claude Code should complete its full response without freezing. claude update should return immediately when already on the latest version.
