Feature Request: Sync projects between Claude Desktop and Claude Code
Resolved 💬 2 comments Opened Mar 8, 2026 by RezaAlmiro Closed Apr 6, 2026
Summary
Add the ability to sync or import project data (custom instructions, system prompts, and context) between Claude Desktop and Claude Code.
Problem
Currently, Claude Desktop and Claude Code are completely siloed. If you build up project context and instructions in Claude Desktop, there's no way to bring that into Claude Code (or vice versa) without manual copy-pasting. This creates friction when switching between the two tools.
Proposed Solution
- A shared project format that both Claude Desktop and Claude Code can read/write
- An import/export option in Claude Desktop that outputs to a
CLAUDE.mdor similar file - Or a sync mechanism (e.g., via Anthropic account) that keeps project instructions in sync across both tools
Use Case
As a user who works across both Claude Desktop (for conversational tasks) and Claude Code (for development), I want my project context to carry over seamlessly so I don't have to manually duplicate setup between tools.
