What's Wrong?

[BUG] Cannot buy API credits — payment fails with every card, payment method cannot be changed (Account: ghruetter@gmail.com)

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report

What's Wrong?

Since February 11, 2026, I am completely unable to purchase API credits on platform.claude.com/settings/billing. All development work using Claude Code / API is blocked.

Three separate issues:

1. "Buy credits" always fails:

  • Clicking "Buy credits" and attempting to purchase $25 in credits results in "Payment failed. Please try again."
  • This happens with every card I try (Mastercard prepaid, Visa debit)
  • The same cards work fine for the claude.ai Pro Plan subscription

2. Payment method cannot be changed:

  • Clicking "Ändern" (Change) next to the Mastercard prepaid card redirects back to the billing page without allowing any change
  • The "Update payment method" dialog shows the card but provides no way to switch to a different card
  • This has been broken for over a week

3. Accidental annual Pro Plan charge:

  • On Feb 11, 2026, a payment of €204.73 was processed as an annual Pro Plan subscription instead of API credits
  • This was not intended — I wanted to add funds to my API credit balance
  • My API balance is now -$0.16, and Claude Code shows "Credit balance too low"

Impact:

  • Claude Code is completely unusable (shows "Credit balance too low" error)
  • API calls all fail
  • No way to add credits through the platform
  • Development work has been halted for over a week

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Go to https://platform.claude.com/settings/billing
  2. Click "Buy credits"
  3. Enter any amount (e.g., $25)
  4. Click "Buy 25 USD of credits"
  5. Result: "Payment failed. Please try again."

OR:

  1. Go to https://platform.claude.com/settings/billing
  2. Click the edit icon next to "Link by Stripe"
  3. In "Update payment method" dialog, click "Ändern" next to the card
  4. Result: Page reloads to billing page — no card change possible

Expected Behavior

  • Should be able to purchase API credits with a valid card
  • Should be able to change the payment method
  • The €204.73 should have been applied to API credits, not an annual subscription

Environment

  • Platform: platform.claude.com (web browser)
  • Browser: Chrome (latest)
  • OS: Windows
  • Location: Ireland (EU)
  • Payment methods tried: Mastercard prepaid (••••1548), Visa (••••7733)
  • Account email: ghruetter@gmail.com

What Should Happen?

Anthropis should resolve the payment issue and accept prepaid Mastercards on its platform ASAP.
