[BUG] Raching rate limit usage with Xcode Intelligence

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

When attempting to use Claude in Xcode Intelligence, every request immediately fails with the error "This request would exceed your account's rate limit. Please try again later." This occurs on the very first interaction, even with a simple "hey" message.

The issue started suddenly after working fine previously. My usage dashboard shows:

  • Current session: 5% used (95% available)
  • Weekly limits: 23% used (77% available)

The web interface (claude.ai) works perfectly with no rate limit issues, confirming this is specific to the Xcode integration.

Troubleshooting already attempted:

  • Logged out and back into Claude account in Xcode
  • Restarted Xcode multiple times
  • Verified subscription is active and in good standing
  • Confirmed web interface works fine
  • This worked previously and stopped working suddenly

Environment:

  • Xcode version: 26.1.1
  • Claude plan: Pro
  • Claude Sonnet 4.5 selected in Xcode Intelligence

What Should Happen?

Expected Behavior:
Claude should respond to requests when I have 95% of my usage quota available.

Actual Behavior:
Instant rate limit error on every single request, making Xcode Intelligence completely unusable.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open Xcode with Claude Intelligence enabled (Settings > Intelligence)
  2. Open the Claude assistant panel
  3. Type any message (even just "hey")
  4. Receive immediate rate limit error before any response

Anthropics! You are lazy. but i'm busy!

Same for me too :(

sjaforbes · 7 months ago

Also had this issue for last 2 days

Mattt121-4239 · 7 months ago

i also have this issue, suddenly.

cwagdev · 7 months ago

I too am seeing this after multiple successful requests, my session was at 71% when it started. My session has however refreshed and shows 2% and still seeing the issue. Weekly is at 11%.

SwiftlyNoah · 7 months ago

Same issue here. This was working fine for my first session in Xcode. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Xcode and it did not work. Turning on extra usage will allow Claude to function again, but I would rather not pay for usage when I could use my session quota instead.

cwagdev · 7 months ago

Worth mentioning that Claude Code works fine, so it's definitely something between Xcode and the Claude Service

Meistrowitz · 7 months ago

Same here.

britsinvade-blip · 7 months ago

Does anyone know how long it takes for them to review these? I tried contacting via the website help-bot but still waiting for a response (24hrs later)

stoumann · 7 months ago

I have the same issue - i even created a new account in Anthropic to fix this, and now this new account is running in to the same issues.

"Message from Anthropic: This request would exceed your account's rate limit. Please try again later."

joonggeunoh · 7 months ago

wow~!

AI companies cheated us.

qwen3-coder:30b is more powerful than Claude.

i'm not chinese...

But I think 5090 + qwen3 coder is better~

sevelina · 7 months ago

Their support bot is useless. I canceled my subscription today and explained the issue. I hope this will at least let them know they're having problems.
I think this happened right after they stopped counting the Opus token separately.

aguna-tillit · 7 months ago

Running into this issue as well when trying to use Xcode Coding Intelligence, but it appears that using Claude Code directly from the terminal within your project directory is working correctly.

Second-Victor · 7 months ago

Same here, this is really frustrating

Nijat-Hamid · 7 months ago

Same here.

dotaistrategist-creator · 7 months ago

has there been any resolution on this conflict? this is insane please help

MT-FLDCDE · 7 months ago

Same for me I reported it weeks ago ... it was working for some time and now without overusing it the issue is there again. I feel like if they wait until you extend your subscription and then shut you down :-(

R-no-Lamy · 7 months ago

Submitted a ticket (pst the bot assistance) 3 days ago, got no reply.
Checked on discord this same issue in the community has been reported twice more than a month ago and
was never addressed.
Of course impossible to get a refund, since there is no support.

MT-FLDCDE · 7 months ago

I would motivate you to send feedback to Apple as well. There is a feedback icon in the AI view. Maybe Apple can make some pressure on them.

hugamess · 7 months ago

Hopefully anthropic aren't too inundated with complaints about rate limits to pick up on this

craigjarman · 7 months ago

Experiencing the same issue in Xcode's current and beta versions.
Has Anthropic acknowledged the issue?

R-no-Lamy · 7 months ago

No they aren't based on the 2 reports on discord. And they don't open tickets when the issue is reported to to support agents (once you get past the chat bot)

vitaliyg · 7 months ago

Problem still persisting for me. 72 hours now. Tried signing out and signing back in in Xcode and submitted the ticket thru Xcode.

adammaikai · 7 months ago

I am also experiencing this but wondering if this is an Xcode issue because the ChatGPT conversations restart after two questions.

xMLosert05 · 7 months ago

I have the same problem since 3 days. anyone found a solution?

It's been reported months ago. So I don't think we should hope for anything to happen short term...at least not rely on it and used the API instead.

The OP mentioned claude. Like Pro subscription with available usage but blocked in xcode.
Personally I never experienced this issue with chatGPT subscription.

Kueper · 7 months ago

Also experiencing this today, was not last week.

allanscofield · 7 months ago

same problem here

MappMaarten · 7 months ago

'Solved' it by adding an extra 5 dollar fund in my account. But this extra fund is already used up in 30 minutes coding. Apparently there are different limits for Xcode than Claude web. But this is not made clear in Claude Usage Settings.

I don't think it is related to the a usage limit "difference" I had 0% usage for days and still not able to use Sonnet 4.5 integrated to the assistant, although I do have funds also I cannot use Sonnet with my subscirption. The additional funds are only used by the API, there should be no impact on using Sonnet that's available within the assistant.

Update on my side— WORKING NOW.

Claude's OAuth has expired on Xcode's side and I had to reauthenticate. That solved the issue. Is there a way to activate reauthentication manually? If so, try this.

I tried signing out and signing back in before but that didn't work.

xMLosert05 · 7 months ago

yes it works again!!!

Is there any way to manually trigger the reauthentication? It's still not working for me, I did logout and in again but nothing works, this is just getting annoying tbh 😡

Hey! This is not Claude Code. The product you're using, XCode Intelligence, is an Apple product. Please file a bug with them. Good luck!

hugamess · 7 months ago

MathStac · 7 months ago

I found a solution.

1 - I went to Library/Caches/ and deleted two folders related to Xcode (com.apple.xcode...).

2 - Then I went to Library/Developer/Xcode/UserData/ and deleted the /CodingAssistant folder.

I don't know exactly which of the two solved the problem.

craigjarman · 7 months ago

Didn’t fix for me.

I forgot to mention that you should close xCloud before doing this. Did you do that?

craigjarman · 7 months ago

Tried closing, then deleting. Still no luck.

sevelina · 7 months ago

Thank you! works for me - close Xcode and delete Library/Developer/Xcode/UserData/CodingAssistant folder

Yeah, that fixed the problem! Thank you so very much! Definitely a caching issue, hopefully this gets fixed soon, in the meantime I think we can all try this! Thanks!! 🙂

This did not fix the issue at my end, but glad to see it works on some setups

shanimos · 7 months ago

didnt fix it for me either

Second-Victor · 7 months ago

didn't fix it for me

R-no-Lamy · 7 months ago

Along with the suggested cache files & folder I also tied deleting the Derived data folder:
rm -rf ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/

but it did not help

MT-FLDCDE · 7 months ago

@dhollman I don't get your point ... Claude API respond with rate limit exceeded what should it have to do with Xcode ?

Message from Anthropic: This request would exceed your account's rate limit. Please try again later.

This is a great way to solve issues .... just ignore it. Same experience you will get if you try to contact support from Anthropic.

Kueper · 7 months ago

Deleting caches did not work for me either, however seemingly unprompted it is now working for me again

dotaistrategist-creator · 7 months ago

Hey guys, just a quick work-around until Claude gets back to me. I signed in with a different Claude account and it seems to be working. It's not a permanent fix, but it's keeping me going until then.

MT-FLDCDE · 7 months ago

For me nothing not working as well.

Since GPT-5 in working in Xcode flawless without that I need to pay any subscription but Claude Sonnet 4.5 does not I would highly recommend that Anthropic it taking the issue seriously.

We are paying customer for Anthropic so we should be treaded like this.

medinajulioc · 7 months ago

Same issue here.

Mustafaguderr · 7 months ago

Was fix but now again same

xMLosert05 · 7 months ago

for a few hours it was fixed for me. now its not working again... I tried the delete CodingAssistant folder and it did not work

phrancque · 7 months ago

Same problem here, deleting mentioned folders didn't help.

hparamore · 7 months ago

Same problem with me today.
I deleted those folders, didn't help.

My usage is at 0% for session, 20% for week. Was working until late last night, and then hasnt worked since.

Using the web version works, and it makes the session limit % go up when I use, so it is still functioning.
But I cannot for the life of me get XCode to stop saying the same "This request would exceed your account's rate limit. Please try again later." message. It doesnt do anything, no matte what I write.

I have tried restarting, updating, disconnecting and reconnecting... only things I havent tried are new claude.ai accounts, or adding $ to the wallet.

craigjarman · 7 months ago

The simplest fix is to reset account, or new account.
Cancel existing account using a the ai helper and get a full refund.
Then reinstate the account at cost.

britsinvade-blip · 7 months ago

I just received this via email (after I used their chat bot to raise a complaint)

"Thanks for reaching out and sincere apologies for the delay here - we’re working hard to restore our typical response times.

Your Claude usage limits are shared across all platforms, so your chats with Claude and coding work in Xcode will draw from the same limits with a five-hour reset period, and will count towards your weekly usage limits.

Please note, users can only use ~10% of their total weekly cap within Xcode at this time. I appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us, and I have logged it internally to help advise us as we continue to build out Claude's capabilities. Please feel free to reach out if you have any other feedback or questions."

10%?! That's ridiculous!

Not only it's ridiculous but its not even the issue here.
I have been using 0% , nada, for a week now, and I had been subscribing and using it normally for month before.
So there is an issue, or something has changed, I have updated xcode from 26. to 26.1.1 after it stopped working in case there was an issue to be fixed but same difference.

MT-FLDCDE · 7 months ago

after installing the new macOS version + Xcode RC it is currently working for me. not sure if it is related but let's see how long.

This worked for me!
https://developer.apple.com/download/applications/

R-no-Lamy · 7 months ago

If you do not wish to install Xcode RC another work around would be to use claude code inside your working directory (you will have to install claude code) then run the prompts from the terminal. it will have the permissions to read and edit code all the same, but not going interact with xcode features like revisions of changes and fixing errors. Better than nothing though at least your can use up your Pro usage through claude code not just the API

Joshhua5 · 7 months ago

I reached out to support a week ago and today got the response and explanation of the 'bug'. There was an undocumented, and IMO deceptive limit to the Claude membership. There was a hidden 10% usage cap specifically for the Xcode integration.

This 10% allocation has been in place since the Xcode integration was introduced. However, based on feedback we've received from users, I just received confirmation from our engineering team that we've made an update.
Starting next week, the 10% Xcode cap will be removed.
You'll be able to use your full weekly allocation within Xcode without the 10% restriction.

shanimos · 7 months ago

@Joshhua5 its working for me now thanks!
