Problem Statement

In the Claude Desktop app (Code tab) on Windows 11, a sound plays every time I start or pause voice dictation. I dictate almost every message and often pause/resume several times per message, so in long sessions the sound plays dozens of times. It becomes repetitive and distracting, and adds no information since the UI already shows the recording state.

There is no setting to turn it off. The only workaround is muting the whole app in the Windows Volume Mixer, which also silences everything else.

Related: #34170 (same request for the CLI, closed as stale).

Proposed Solution

Add a setting to disable the dictation start/stop sounds, separate from notification sounds. A volume slider would also work, as long as it can go to zero.
