In the Claude desktop app's Code tab, the message box sometimes stops taking letters, numbers and other typed characters. Backspace, Return and the arrow keys still work. While it's stuck, the same keyboard types normally in Chrome, so the keys are reaching the Mac. Switching to another conversation and back (twice) didn't help; quitting Claude and reopening it brought typing back. It happened three times on 2026-10-11, at about 2:17, 3:59 and 4:21 pm US Central.

Setup: Claude 2.31226.1, macOS 26.5 (25F71), Mac mini (Macmini9,1). Two USB keyboards (an Apple keyboard and a SafeType ergonomic keyboard) through a display's USB hub. I use macOS dictation (Control pressed twice).

Checked while it was stuck: macOS showed no key or modifier held down and no secure keyboard entry; Slow Keys, Sticky Keys and Mouse Keys were off. Restarting macOS's press-and-hold helper, keyboard services, Siri's key listeners and dictation didn't help, and neither did closing the app's browser pane.

While it's stuck, the microphone button in the message box still works: its text goes into the box, just not typed characters. That's how I keep using Claude until I restart it. macOS dictation (Control pressed twice) does nothing in the box then.
