[Desktop] Browser pane: two-finger trackpad swipe does not navigate back (toolbar ← works)
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report
- [ ] I am using the latest version of Claude Code (the desktop app bundles 2.1.289; latest CLI is 2.1.292)
What's Wrong?
In the Code tab's Browser pane, a two-finger horizontal swipe on the trackpad does not navigate back in history. The page has a back entry and the toolbar ← button navigates back correctly, so the history itself is fine; only the swipe gesture is not wired to navigation.
The swipe is delivered to the page as wheel events (a counter on the page increases while swiping), but no back navigation happens.
The same page and gesture navigate back in Safari, Chrome Beta, and the Codex desktop app's in-app browser on the same machine.
What Should Happen?
A two-finger swipe right on a page that has a back history entry should navigate back, as in Safari/Chrome (macOS "Swipe between pages"), or the pane's back button behavior should be reachable by the swipe gesture.
Error Messages/Logs
None.
Steps to Reproduce
- Serve two static pages locally, e.g.
python3 -m http.server 8766 --bind 127.0.0.1in a folder withpage1.html(linking topage2.html) andpage2.html. - Open
http://127.0.0.1:8766/page1.htmlin the Browser pane. - Click the link to
page2.html.history.lengthis now 3. - Two-finger swipe right over the page.
- Actual: stays on
page2.html. Awheellistener on the page receives the events.
- Click the toolbar ←.
- Actual: goes back to
page1.html(expected).
- Repeat steps 2–4 in Safari, Chrome Beta, or the Codex desktop app's browser: the swipe goes back.
Minimal page used (page2 is the same with the link pointing to page1):
<!doctype html><meta charset="utf-8"><title>page 1</title>
<a href="page2.html">page2.html</a>
<p>history.length: <b id="len"></b></p>
<pre id="wheel">no wheel events</pre>
<script>
document.getElementById('len').textContent = history.length;
let n = 0, sx = 0;
addEventListener('wheel', e => { n++; sx += e.deltaX; document.getElementById('wheel').textContent = `count=${n} sumDeltaX=${Math.round(sx)}`; }, { passive: true });
</script>

Additional Information
- macOS 15.7.7 (24G720), Apple Silicon. "Swipe between pages" is at its default (
AppleEnableSwipeNavigateWithScrollsunset, i.e. two-finger swipe enabled). - Use case: an MCP server opens a local review page in the Browser pane; users expect to move back and forth between its views with the same gesture they use in other browsers.
