Desktop app: clicking a link in chat replaces the current Browser pane tab instead of opening a new tab

Summary

In the Claude desktop app (Code tab), clicking a URL in a chat message loads it into the Browser pane's currently active tab. The page that was already open is replaced, so there is no way to keep it open while following the link.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the Code tab with the Browser pane visible and a page loaded in it.
  2. Have Claude send a message containing a link.
  3. Click the link.

Expected

The link opens in a new Browser pane tab, and the existing tab stays as it is. Alternatively, a documented modifier (for example Cmd+click) or a context-menu item such as "Open in new tab" opens it in a new tab.

Actual

The active tab navigates to the link and the previous page is lost. I could not find a shortcut or menu item to open the link in a new tab.

Environment

  • Claude desktop app, Code tab, built-in Browser pane
  • macOS (Darwin 25.5.0)

Notes

When Claude itself opens a page it creates a new tab first, so the tab is preserved. Only clicks on chat links behave this way.
