[BUG] Desktop: in-app Browser tab keeps playing audio while its session is in the background, with no indicator of which session owns it
Environment: Claude desktop 2.9939.2.0 (Windows MSIX), Windows 11 Pro 26200.
What happened
A tab in the in-app Browser pane of one Code session played static noise for hours while I worked in other sessions. The Windows Volume Mixer shows a single "Claude" entry, and nothing in the sidebar or the session shows that it is playing. The session's agent never called the browser tools, so the tab most likely came from a link click.
Finding it took about 40 minutes: enumerating Core Audio sessions (only the audio.mojom.AudioService utility process of claude.exe was active), sampling CPU per renderer, and suspending the suspect renderer until the peak dropped to zero. Closing the tab in that session stopped the sound.
Steps to reproduce
- In session A, open a page that plays audio in the in-app Browser.
- Switch to session B, or close the side panel.
- The audio keeps playing, and the app gives no way to tell which session or tab is responsible.
Related
preview_stop stops the dev server but leaves the tab open, so a page that is already playing keeps playing until tabs_close.
Suggestions
- A speaker indicator on the session in the sidebar and on the tab, as Chrome shows on tabs.
- Mute from that indicator.
- Pause or mute media when the Browser pane is hidden or its session is not in the foreground.
