[Bug] Anthropic API Error: Overly restrictive safeguard blocking legitimate defensive cybersecurity research
Bug Description
Request ID: req_011CfPe2s65M7a4JtTrHZS5q & Message ID: msg_011CfPe2vP1Q5LYpbu6n72W5
I’m working on a legitimate defensive cybersecurity project involving Linux auditd telemetry.
My current work is focused on building an auditd telemetry guide and validating real-time audit events on systems I own/control, including my local Linux host and isolated VMs. I’m generating benign system activities, observing the resulting auditd events, and documenting how those events can be collected, interpreted, parsed, and used for security monitoring and detection.
The work includes:
- Configuring and troubleshooting auditd and audit rules.
- Generating controlled local system events for telemetry validation.
- Reviewing raw auditd events using tools such as ausearch and aureport.
- Mapping system activities to audit event types and fields.
- Documenting the telemetry for SIEM/parser/extractor development.
- Validating that expected events are generated and can be reliably detected.
The safeguard interrupted the session while I was working on this defensive telemetry and monitoring use case. No unauthorized systems, credentials, or third-party infrastructure are involved; the testing is performed only on systems I control in my local environment.
I understand the need for cybersecurity safeguards, but this appears to have been a false positive for legitimate defensive security research. It would be helpful if auditd telemetry collection, event validation, SIEM/parser development, and controlled local testing could be recognized as legitimate defensive cybersecurity activities.
