[BUG] Voice dictation produces garbled/unrelated text (macOS desktop app)
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
Voice dictation in the Claude desktop app (macOS) started producing garbled, repetitive, and unrelated text today, after working correctly before. Examples of output received: random French/English phrases unrelated to what was spoken, repeated words ("Claude Claude Claude..."), fragments like "Dans le message de Twitch" or "Il y a un message hein".
Troubleshooting already done:
- Confirmed physical microphone works correctly (Internal Microphone, input level responds normally in System Settings > Sound)
- Toggled dictation mode (Manual/Auto) in the message input — no change
- Restarted the app — no change
System: macOS Ventura 13.7.8, iMac (iMac18,3, 2017)
What Should Happen?
Dictation should accurately transcribe the spoken words into text, as it did before today.
Error Messages/Logs
Steps to Reproduce
- Open the Claude desktop app on macOS
- Click the microphone icon in the message input box to start voice dictation
- Speak a sentence in Croatian
- Observe that the transcribed text is unrelated/garbled (e.g., random French phrases, repeated words) instead of matching what was spoken
Note: happens consistently, started today without any known change on my end. Physical microphone hardware confirmed working (tested via System Settings > Sound > Input, level meter responds correctly to voice).
