Add setting to keep IDE selection indicator in footer instead of inline prompt
Description
As of v2.1.268 (2026-09-10), the changelog notes: "Improved the prompt footer: an editor or /diff selection now shows inside the prompt input, and fullscreen mode shows Remote Control status in the header instead of the footer."
Previously, the current file/selection indicator (along with mode indication and other status) was shown in the bottom status line. Now it's shown inline in the prompt input line itself.
Problem
The inline placement is intrusive while composing prompts — it sits directly in the input area the user is actively typing in, rather than in a separate status region.
Request
Please add a setting (e.g. in settings.json, or a /config toggle) to let users choose whether the IDE editor//diff selection indicator appears inline in the prompt input, or in the bottom footer/status line as before.
Environment
- Claude Code CLI, IDE integration (VS Code)
- Behavior introduced in v2.1.268

Seconded. This wastes a huge amount of horizontal space for no good reason.
Found it so annoying and distracting that had to disconnect terminals from the IDE ...
Thanks @elmart-cs for opening.
Workaround
I opted to roll back for now. I'm on the claude code native installer.

Every line starts at an indent and wraps earlier than it should.
Please add a setting to keep the indicator in the footer, or at least hide the inline chip. Thanks!
