Swiss German keyboard: Option + G (@ symbol) not working in CLI input
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
When using Claude Code CLI with a Swiss German keyboard layout, the key
combination Option + G (which produces the @ symbol) does not work in the
input field. The same key combination works correctly in all other macOS
applications.
Environment:
- OS: macOS (Darwin 25.0.0)
- Computer: MacBook Air
- Keyboard Layout: Swiss German
- Locale: en_CH (English - Switzerland)
- Terminal: TERM=xterm-256color, LANG=C.UTF-8
- Claude Code Version: (current version)
Steps to Reproduce:
- Set keyboard layout to Swiss German in macOS System Settings
- Launch Claude Code CLI
- Try to type @ symbol using Option + G
- The symbol does not appear in the Claude Code input
Expected Behavior:
The @ symbol should be produced when pressing Option + G, as it does in
all other macOS applications.
Actual Behavior:
Nothing happens when pressing Option + G in Claude Code CLI input. The key
combination appears to be intercepted or not properly passed through.
Workaround:
Currently using copy/paste or the macOS Character Viewer (Control + Cmd +
Space) to input the @ symbol.
Additional Context:
- The issue is specific to Claude Code CLI
- Option + G works correctly in TextEdit, Notes, browsers, and other
terminal applications
- This affects the ability to type email addresses and other text
requiring the @ symbol
