[Bug] Option as meta key conflicts with German keyboard layout special characters

Question

**Bug Description**
/terminal-setup breaks the terminal on german keyboards. here, option+7 is |, option+n ~, option+l is @. By enabling "Use Option as meta key", the user becomes inable to use ~ and | especially anywhere in the terminal, even outside of claude. This is bad, as ~| are extremely frequently used by the type of user that uses claude code. A more elegant solution would be good.

I am on a japanese physical keyboard using a german layout, on a 14' mbp.
