Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

On a keyboard layout where the C key is at the physical location of W on a QWERTY layout (like Ergol), pressing what should be Copy (Cmd+C) is instead handled as Cmd+W (Close Window/View), closing the current view unexpectedly.

This suggests the app's shortcut handling for Cmd+W (and possibly other menu accelerators) is bound to the physical key position / key code rather than to the character produced by the active keyboard layout, so it fires based on physical position instead of the mapped letter.

What Should Happen?

Cmd+C should perform Copy according to the character the OS keyboard layout maps to that key, matching standard macOS/Electron behavior (shortcuts should respect the active input layout, not raw physical key position).

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Use the Ergol keyboard layout
  2. Open the Claude desktop app, focus any view where Cmd+C would normally copy text/content.
  3. Press Cmd+C (physical key in the W-on-QWERTY position).
  4. Observe that the current view closes instead of copying.
