Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

At display scaling of 100%, the taskbar/shortcut icon shows the correct Claude logo (orange circular background with white symbol). At scaling of 200%, the icon shown is visually different — just the orange symbol alone, with no background/outline — in addition to being lower resolution/blurry.

This appears related to the MSIX package missing multiple targetsize icon variants needed for proper DPI scaling on Windows.

What Should Happen?

The icon should show the same design (orange background + white symbol) at all Windows display scaling levels, just rendered at the appropriate resolution.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

Install Claude Desktop via the official Windows installer. Set Windows display scaling to 200% (Settings > System > Display > Scale). Pin Claude Desktop to the taskbar and observe the icon. Compare the icon to the same install with scaling set to 100%.

Result: At 100% scaling the icon shows correctly (orange circular background with white symbol). At 200% scaling the icon shown is a different, lower-resolution variant with no background, just the orange symbol on its own.

Additional Information

This is a Claude Desktop (Windows) bug, not Claude Code CLI — filing here since Claude Desktop issues are tracked in this repo. The MSIX package appears to be missing several targetsize icon variants needed for correct DPI scaling, causing Windows to fall back to a smaller/different unplated icon asset at scaling levels above 100%.

Seconded. Been the case for at least four months.

This happens with Windows 10, too. The icon looks fine in the menu, but when I add it as a tile, it appears pixelated and oversized.

Same:

  • Windows 11 Pro, 25H2, 26200.9457.
  • Scale: 200%
  • Resolution: 3840x2160 (4K monitor)

Claude Desktop is the only app icon where this is an issue.
