Request

Add a Chinese (Simplified, zh-CN) language option for the Claude Code interface, so Chinese-speaking users can use the product in their native language.

What should be localized

  • Permission dialog text and prompts
  • Status line labels
  • Slash-command names and descriptions
  • Help output (/help)
  • Error and warning messages
  • Settings UI text
  • All user-facing chrome around the AI conversation

Motivation

The core value of Claude Code is the AI conversation, which already works great in Chinese. But the surrounding interface (menus, prompts, status messages, permission dialogs) is English-only, which adds friction for users who think and work in Chinese.

A language toggle (similar to how IDEs offer language packs) or following the system locale would make the product much more accessible to the large Chinese developer community.

Acceptance criteria

  • A language setting (or auto-detect from system locale) that switches all UI chrome to Chinese
  • OR a community-contributed locale file mechanism so users can add translations

Happy to help test or review translations.
