[BUG] Desktop 1.22209.0: sidebar project filter removed — docs still document it

Environment

• App: Claude Code Desktop (macOS)
• Version: 1.22209.0 (July 16, 2026 release)
• OS: macOS (Darwin 25.5.0), Apple Silicon

Description

The sidebar filter menu in the Code tab previously allowed filtering sessions by project (alongside status and environment). After updating to 1.22209.0, the project filter is gone. The filter menu now shows only:

• Status (Active)
• Environment (All)
• Group by (Project)
• Sort by (Recency)

There is no longer any way to limit the sidebar to a chosen set of projects.

Evidence this is a regression, not an intentional change

1. The official docs still describe the feature. As of July 18, 2026, https://code.claude.com/docs/en/desktop ("Manage sessions") reads:

> "Use the controls at the top of the sidebar to filter sessions by status, project, or environment, and to group sessions by project."

Filtering by project is listed as a distinct control, separate from grouping. The shipped app no longer matches the docs.

1. The feature was present in late June. Issue #72126 (filed June 28, 2026) describes the sidebar in present tense: sessions "can be grouped (e.g. by project) and filtered by status/project/environment." So the removal happened between that build and 1.22209.0.

1. No changelog entry mentions it. Neither the 1.22209.0 nor 1.21459.x release notes reference the sidebar filter menu or removing the project filter.

1. The persisted sidebar state no longer has a field for it. The sidebar state stored in the app's Local Storage contains recentsStatusFilter, recentsTypeFilter, groupByByMode, and sortByByMode, but no project-filter field — the current build appears to have no data model for this filter at all.

Expected behavior

The filter menu includes a Project entry allowing sessions to be filtered to selected project(s), as documented.

Actual behavior

No project filter exists anywhere in the sidebar UI. The only workaround is Group by: Project plus manually collapsing unwanted project groups, which does not hide them.

Ask

Either restore the project filter, or (if the removal was intentional) update the docs and provide an alternative way to hide/scope projects in the sidebar.
