What's Wrong?

Title: Ungrouped sessions in sidebar now sort alphabetically instead of reverse-chronologically

Environment

  • Platform: Claude Code desktop app (macOS)
  • App version: [PASTE FROM Claude Code → About Claude Code]
  • macOS version: [PASTE FROM → About This Mac]
  • Both app and OS updated to the latest available as of 14 July 2026

Description

The "Ungrouped" sessions list in the sidebar used to be sorted by date, with the most recently active session at the top. At some point this changed, and ungrouped sessions are now sorted alphabetically by title instead.

This is a significant usability regression. Session titles are auto-generated and often unrelated to what I was actually working on, so alphabetical order makes it very difficult to find the session I just had — I have to scan the whole list rather than just checking the top.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create several sessions without assigning them to a group.
  2. Look at the "Ungrouped" section of the sidebar.
  3. Sessions appear sorted A–Z by title, not by last-updated/created time.

Expected behaviour

Ungrouped sessions sort in reverse-chronological order (most recently active/created at the top), as they previously did.

Actual behaviour

Ungrouped sessions sort alphabetically by title.

Additional notes

  • I checked the sidebar UI and the Claude Code settings and could not find any option to change the sort order.
  • Screenshot attached showing the current alphabetical ordering (Always Allow, Amazon competitor tracking..., Asana connection visibility, etc.).
  • Related but distinct: #70104 and #25974 request manual reordering/pinning of sidebar groups. This report is about a change in existing sort behaviour for the Ungrouped list, not a new feature request.
