[BUG] Claude app cuts off microphone after 2-3 seconds

What's Wrong?
Bug Description
In Cowork mode, voice dictation (tap mode) stops on its own approximately 2–3 seconds after I start recording, while I am actively speaking. It is not a silence timeout — I am mid-sentence when it cuts.
I have not been able to reproduce this in standard Claude Code CLI sessions. It appears to be Cowork-specific.
Steps to Reproduce
- Open Cowork mode
- Run
/voice tap(already in tap mode) - Press the activation key to start recording
- Begin speaking immediately
- Recording terminates after ~2–3 seconds, mid-utterance
Expected Behavior
Recording continues until I tap again to stop, or until the documented 15s silence / 2min total limit is reached.
Actual Behavior
Recording ends after 2–3 seconds while I am still speaking. Partial transcript (if any) is inserted; the rest of the utterance is lost.
What I've Ruled Out
- Mic hardware: System Settings → Sound → Input shows normal levels; other voice dictation tools on the same machine work without issue
- Input device selection: correct device is selected as default input
- Long-session bug (#52845): this happens immediately on a fresh launch; full quit and relaunch does not help
- Silence threshold: I am speaking continuously when it cuts; the documented 15s silence / 2min total limits are not being hit
- Mode confusion: confirmed in tap mode, not hold mode

This morning I woke up to the laptop which is the ARM processor exhibiting the same behavior apparently there was an update on the ARM processor to version 1.1596 2.1 I can't believe I'm the only one that has this problem then is anybody out there?
Confirming this isn't Linux-specific — I'm seeing the identical behavior on Windows 11 x64 and Windows 11 ARM64 (Surface Pro, Snapdragon X), both on version 1.15962.1.0. Same symptom exactly: Cowork mic input captures a couple seconds of audio then cuts off, every time, while normal Claude.ai chat voice input works fine on the same machines. Ruled out hardware, drivers, and OS-level audio settings on my end. Looks like a shared regression in Cowork's audio capture pipeline across platforms in this build, not something specific to PipeWire/bubblewrap. Filed separately at anthropics/claude-code#[your issue number].
I have the EXACT same thing happening to me....Except I only get about 1-2 seconds before it cuts off. In Claude Chat, it works fine.
I have a brand new MacBook Pro with M5 Max chip, so it's not like I have old equipment. The damnedest thing is it started out of the blue on Monday. I have been using Cowork since March with no problems.
I have tried EVERYTHING with permissions and settings.

I can confirm this has been happening on my end for a few days now as well. Max 20x plan on MacOS latest [26.5.1 (25F80)], Claude for Mac [Claude 1.17377.1 (2b3ab4)] running Cowork on Opus 4.8 with medium effort.
