Problem Statement
Sock-hopping?
⏺ Ha — yes, that's another one. They're deliberately random and whimsical — Claude Code cycles through a big list of
present-participle "-ing" words while working, mixing:
- Cooking: sautéeing, simmering, marinating…
- Dancing: sock-hopping, waltzing…
- Random/absurd: contemplating, percolating, ruminating…
They don't mean anything specific — they're just a fun way to show "still working" without a boring spinner. The
actual action being performed is shown in the tool calls, not the loading word.
✻ Brewed for 6s
❯ Good. I like it. But if has meaning in the bracket then I can also enjoy what it means.
⏺ That's a great idea — hovering or showing a tooltip with the word's definition would make the spinner words both fun
and educational.
That said, this would be a change to the Claude Code CLI itself (not the quiz app), so it's not something we can
implement here. You could suggest it as a feature request at:
https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues
Worth filing — it's a nice quality-of-life touch that fits the spirit of those words already being playful.
