[BUG] CoworkVMService killed during Claude Desktop auto-update — Snapdragon ARM64 Surface Pro

What's Wrong?

Device: Microsoft Surface Pro for Business 12in 1st Edition (Snapdragon X, ARM64)

OS: Windows 11 ARM64

Claude Desktop version: 1.14271.0.0 → 1.15200.0.0 (MSIX ARM64)

Reproduction rate: Occurs on every auto-update while Cowork is actively running

What Should Happen?

Claude Desktop auto-updates mid-session while Cowork is running. The MSIX update process disables and reinstalls CoworkVMService without first gracefully stopping the running VM, causing an immediate "VM connection timeout after 60 seconds" error. Cowork is unrecoverable until the user manually restarts the service and relaunches Claude Desktop.

Error Messages/Logs

09:47 — Windows Update installs Defender signature update (unrelated but shows update activity)
10:00:29 — EventID 7040, Service Control Manager: Claude service start type changed from auto start to disabled
10:00:30 — EventID 7045, Service Control Manager: New Claude service installed from Claude_1.15200.0.0_arm64

Steps to Reproduce

Install Claude Desktop (MSIX ARM64) on a Microsoft Surface Pro with Snapdragon X processor running Windows 11 ARM64
Open Claude Desktop and navigate to the Cowork tab
Start a Cowork session and begin actively using it
Wait for Claude Desktop to auto-update in the background (no user action required — update installs silently)
Observe "Failed to start Claude's workspace — VM connection timeout after 60 seconds" error appear mid-session
