[UX] console.anthropic.com lacks clear "API / developer console" identity — subscription users land there expecting billing controls
Summary
console.anthropic.com carries no prominent label identifying it as the API and
developer console. Subscription users (claude.ai Max/Pro plans) who navigate
there expecting to manage billing or usage find an interface that shows nothing
relevant to them — but the page gives no clear signal that it is the wrong place.
Observed behavior
- console.anthropic.com shows API key management, API usage metrics, and
organization settings
- None of these apply to subscription (claude.ai) users
- The page has no banner, heading, or label stating "This is the API console
for API key users" or directing subscription users elsewhere
- claude.ai/settings/billing is the correct destination for subscription users,
but console.anthropic.com does not say so
Impact
Subscription users waste time on console.anthropic.com trying to find usage
history, billing controls, or per-surface breakdowns that don't exist there.
The lack of identity labeling makes the two billing systems (API credit vs
subscription) even harder to distinguish.
Expected behavior
console.anthropic.com should display a clear, prominent label such as:
"API Console — for users accessing Claude via API key.
Manage your claude.ai subscription at claude.ai/settings/billing."
