Feature request: keep Fable 5 in the model picker after June 23, billed via extra usage credits
Request
When Fable 5 leaves subscription plans on June 23, please keep it selectable in the existing model picker in Claude Code and the Claude Desktop app, with consumption billed against the already-existing extra usage credit balance (at the announced 2x rate) — rather than requiring an API-key / Console setup.
Context
I'm a Max 20x subscriber and I already keep extra usage credits topped up (~$100+ visible in my Usage screen). The announcement says using Fable 5 after June 23 'will require usage credits', which sounds like exactly this — but it doesn't explicitly promise that the model stays in the picker inside Claude Code / Desktop. This issue is to ask for that confirmation, and to advocate for it if it isn't currently the plan.
Why it matters
My use case for Fable 5 is an occasional escalation model: when Opus 4.8 gets stuck on a hard problem, I switch the session to Fable 5, resolve it, and switch back. This only works if switching stays one click (/model) inside Claude Code. Making Fable 5 API-only would break this workflow for subscription users who are perfectly happy to pay per use from prepaid credits.
Desired UX in one line: identical to today — select Fable 5 in the model picker, usage draws from prepaid extra-usage credits, no separate API key, no new console, no workflow change.
And of course: please restore Fable 5 to standard plans as soon as capacity allows, as announced. Thank you!
