[BUG] Releases not gated behind changelog update. Doctor reports stale "Latest version".

What's Wrong?
This exact issue has been already reported (#6960, 7 upvotes). However, that issue has been automatically closed and locked due to inactivity. It was likely never addressed.
I have observed new updates being released before the changelog went live for both 2.1.152 and 2.1.153
As of right now, my claude code auto-updated to 2.1.153 (less than an hour ago). However, as of the time writing this comment:
- latest changelog entry is
2.1.152 - latest entry in https://code.claude.com/docs/en/changelog is
2.1.152 - latest release in https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/releases is
2.1.152 - 'claude doctor' shows
Latest version: 2.1.152
What Should Happen?
Proposed solution: Gate the latest release channel behind the GitHub release.
Steps to Reproduce
- Enable auto-update in
latestchannel - Automatically check changelog on GitHub + 'claude doctor' when version updates
- Observe that when claude updates, there is a delay before the changelog entry arrives and
claude doctorreports the correct 'latest' version.
Is this a regression?
I don't know
