Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

System Information:

  • OS: Windows 11 Insider Preview Experimental (Build 26300.8493)
  • RAM: 64GB total
  • Claude Desktop version: latest

What happens:
Claude Desktop automatically closes/crashes when its memory usage reaches approximately 3GB in Task Manager, even though the system still has plenty of RAM available (64GB total, only 57% used).

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Claude Desktop (Code tab)
  2. Use the app normally for a while
  3. Monitor Task Manager — when Claude process reaches ~3.5GB RAM, app crashes automatically

Expected behavior:
App should continue running normally as system RAM is not exhausted.

Additional context:

  • Multiple Claude processes visible in Task Manager totaling ~4.5GB
  • CPU usage stays at 0% before crash
  • System resources are not exhausted when crash occurs
  • This appears to be a hardcoded memory limit in the app
