What's Wrong?

Bug Report: Cowork & Claude Code Crashing on ARM64 Surface Laptop 7

Summary

Cowork and Claude Code crash consistently with error code 3221225477 (0xC0000005 - Access Violation) on a Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 with Snapdragon X (ARM64) processor.

Device Specs

• Device: Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition
• Processor: Snapdragon X 10-core X1P64100 @ 3.40GHz (ARM64)
• OS: Windows 11 Home (Build 26200)
• RAM: 16GB
• Claude Code version: 2.1.145

Error Message

Claude Code process exited with code 3221225477

What Happens

• Cowork crashes mid-task regardless of model (Opus 4.7 or Sonnet 4.6)
• Clearing cache and restarting does not resolve it
• Crashes happen consistently during longer agentic tasks
• Claude Code also crashes independently
• claude --version works fine (binary responds correctly)
• Windows is fully up to date
• No Claude-specific entries found in Windows Event Viewer
• SecurityHealthService timeout errors found in System event log which may be related

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open Cowork desktop app
2. Start any agentic task (e.g. web browsing, file management)
3. App crashes after a short time with the above error code

Additional Notes

Anthropic support confirmed this may be a Snapdragon X compatibility issue. The error code suggests an illegal instruction or memory access violation specific to this ARM64 architecture.

Happy to provide additional logs or information if needed.

What Should Happen?

Cowork and Claude Code should complete agentic tasks without crashing on ARM64/Snapdragon X processors.
