Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing requests and this feature hasn't been requested yet
  • [x] This is a single feature request (not multiple features)

Problem Statement

There are notification sounds when using the dictation feature. This serves no purpose, and the audio feedback is disruptive. There's no OS-level way to mute just this sound without muting the entire application.

This issue has been reported before but the feature request was closed for no apparent reason. 34170
Github specifically says "If you're experiencing a similar issue, please file a new issue and reference this one if it's relevant." but it will not let me submit without checking the "not requested yet" checkbox.

Proposed Solution

Add a setting to disable the sound effects, or just remove them altogether. Dictation in other systems (for example ChatGPT) does not have the sound effects because it is completely unnecessary. Visual feedback is sufficient and preferable. A waveform display would be useful and give the user feedback that the microphone is using.

Alternative Solutions

Currently I mute the entire Claude Code application at the system level, but that means no sounds will be played, even meaningful ones.

Priority

High - Significant impact on productivity
