[BUG] Max 20x subscription silently downgraded to Pro with unauthorized credit card charge while Google Play subscription still active

What's Wrong?

Summary

My active Claude Max 20x subscription (purchased through Google Play, valid until May 11, 2026) was silently downgraded to Pro on April 22, 2026. On the same day, my credit card was charged for a separate Pro subscription that I never signed up for — despite my Google Play Max subscription being active and fully paid.

This appears to be a cross-platform billing sync bug between Google Play Billing and the claude.ai account/billing system, similar in pattern to:

• #32766 — $50 promotional credit disappeared after Google Play → web subscription change
• #45335 — Max 5x subscription silently downgraded to Free with no user action
• #48780 — Max plan double-billed and account downgraded
• #23315 — Claude Code charged via API billing AND prepaid credits simultaneously

What's Wrong?

Three inconsistent states exist simultaneously on my account:

When I hit the Pro usage limit mid-session today (April 22), I realized I had been downgraded. I have never been rate-limited on Max 20x before.

Troubleshooting Already Attempted

• [x] Logged out of all Claude clients and logged back in — no change.
• [x] Attempted "Resubscribe" in Settings → Billing — fails with error stating subscription is managed through Google Play.
• [x] Verified Google Play subscription is active and not cancelled.
• [x] Verified no payment failures on the Google Play side.

What Should Happen?

Expected Behavior

Max 20x entitlements should remain active on the account until May 11, 2026, consistent with the paid-and-active Google Play subscription. No additional Pro subscription or charge should exist on my credit card.

Actual Behavior

• Account entitlements downgraded to Pro.
• Unauthorized Pro charge created on credit card on April 21, 2026.
• Google Play Max 20x subscription remains active but is not honored by the claude.ai system.

Impact

• Loss of paid Max 20x access ~20 days before the end of the billing period.
• Unauthorized charge on credit card with no corresponding service.
• Support path is blocked: Fin AI agent escalated to "human review" with no confirmation email and no ticket-status visibility.

Requested Resolution

1. Restore Max 20x entitlements on my account through May 11, 2026, matching the active Google Play subscription.
2. Reverse the unauthorized Pro subscription charge from April 21, 2026.
3. Investigate the sync mechanism between Google Play Billing and the claude.ai entitlement system to prevent this from affecting other Android Max subscribers.

I cannot reproduce this intentionally — it happened without any action on my part. Timeline:

1. Subscribed to Max 20x via Google Play (prior to April 11, 2026), billing cycle through May 11.
2. April 21, 2026 — credit card charged for a Pro subscription I did not authorize.
3. April 22, 2026 — hit Pro-tier usage limit in Claude; discovered plan now shows as Pro in the app.
4. Google Play still shows Max 20x active with next charge scheduled for May 11, 2026
